Diana Ghandour- We Design Beirut

Diana Ghandour is  back to We Design Beirut in Its Second Edition where she is showcasing her sculptural creation At the Rom an Bath event

Step into Diana Ghandour’s world, and you’ll feel it instantly: bold beauty, effortless elegance, and a spark of something truly original. Her presence is magnetic: warm, refined, unapologetically feminine. Her spaces? Even more so. Every room she touches becomes a mood, a dream designed to be lived in.

Diana isn’t just an interior architect. She’s a Lebanese creative trailblazer who masters the power of blending art, design, and emotion into pieces that challenge the ordinary and celebrate individuality. Her signature? Daring colors, unexpected contrasts, and a soulful approach that makes every creation unforgettable.

Glamouria uncovers the woman behind the studio: her inspirations, her process, and what it really means to design with heart, in a world that often plays it safe.

Tell us a little about yourself- Where did you grow up, what did you study. Why furniture and why design?

I am an interior architect educated in Beirut, with additional studies in art history, graphic design, and the relationship between well-being and spatial design. My passion for furniture and art stems from my continuous research into innovative brands and avant-garde art movements.

How did you decide to switch to design? Was there a light bulb moment?

As I immersed myself in designing homes and seeking inspiration for my page whats_hipp, I found a deeper calling; I realised I wanted to create furniture pieces that breathe life into spaces, pieces infused with my soul and that of my clients, transforming each interior into a story of harmony and emotion.

Was it easy to follow your decision? Emotionally and creatively?

Designing and creating a unique piece without imitation is a challenge in itself. It’s not just about drawing or rendering; I find that true creativity lies in making it functional and real. Transforming imagination into something tangible is the greatest challenge, and once achieved, it feels like a dream come true.

What obstacles did you face?

One of the main obstacles I face throughout my design journey is the fear of transforming a vision into reality while staying within a realistic budget. Achieving the right balance between creativity and practicality is never easy, yet I believe the true essence of design lies in the finishing details and perfect proportions; they are what bring harmony and soul to every creation.

How do you define your signature style? What makes it clear it’s designed by Diana: Colors? Materials? Shapes?

My signature lies in the vibrant colors I choose and the daring way I combine them. I love to mix and match unexpected materials, creating contrasts that feel alive and full of emotion. To me, the “weird” is beautiful! I always strive to step a little outside the box, where true originality begins.

What does Diana Ghandour and Diana Ghandour Studio have in common?

Diana Ghandour is the creative mind behind Diana Ghandour studio; it’s a mirror of my presence and character. My work embodies minimalistic simplicity, yet carries a classical elegance defined by neatness, strong edges, and timeless balance, all infused with harmony, femininity, and a joyful spirit that makes each creation well studied and unique.

Does Beirut influence your aesthetics and if so, how?

The fragility and charm of Beirut, especially in times of political uncertainty, have deepened my faith in my city and in our collective strength as Lebanese designers. I believe in our ability to achieve more and revive Beirut as a city of art, creation, and resilience. It’s not only about me, but about all Lebanese designers who have turned collaboration into our greatest weapon- a way to fight, to rise, and to present Beirut once again is full of creativity and beauty.

Where do you start when you have a new project?

I always begin with collecting data about the project by leading in-depth research that sets my work apart and pushes it beyond the box. I tend to generate new ideas and explore different alternatives through a process of trial and error- a creative journey that makes me closer to my ultimate goal: achieving a design that feels original, meaningful, and, hopefully, a true success.

Given all the economic, political, and logistical challenges Lebanon has been facing, how do you manage sourcing materials, artisans and labour reliably?

Surprisingly, our community is rich in resources and talent. Our artisans embody devotion and an incredible work ethic, constantly turning the impossible into possible and the difficult into effortless. It’s truly magical to witness how we work together: budgets remain reasonable, craftsmanship is impeccable, and the pace is astonishing. They work day and night with passion and precision, creating pieces that stand the test of time in quality, value, and beauty.

In your own home. what’s a bold design decision you made that you are proud of?

I can’t truly explain how I designed my own home or studio. There were no mood boards, no perspectives, no drawings. I designed with my mind and trusted my vision completely, never doubting my intuition. Seeing the result only deepened my belief in myself and my creative instinct. Of course, when working with clients, I translate my thoughts into perspectives and detailed execution plans, but when it comes to my own space, it’s purely a dialogue between imagination and soul.

Design Tips for Readers

The trust between my clients and me is the key to every successful project. Design is not only about aesthetics; it’s about emotion, intuition, and harmony. Here are a few guiding principles I live by:

1. Balanced Palettes

Every color palette I create is studied with care and built around harmony. The tones I choose are meant to evoke positive energy and serenity in the space.

2. Material Harmony

The materials - marble, brass, glass, or wood, must coexist in balance. Each element has a voice, and when they are used in equal measure, they create a feeling of well-being and natural rhythm.

3. Textures, Fabrics, and Light

The softness of fabrics, the texture of walls, and the right balance of light all contribute to the sense of home. Every detail should be studied to create warmth, comfort, and an inviting atmosphere.

4. Trust the Process

Don’t over-research or let outside opinions cloud your vision. Too many voices can bring doubt and confusion. Believe in your instincts and stay connected to your dream home, that’s where authenticity and beauty come from.
